Tucked away near the western end of the
Albemarle Sound, Edenton is, without doubt,
one of the most historic and picturesque
communities in North Carolina. This was the
state's first colonial capital, and just as
Edenton welcomed trading ships to her port in
the town's heyday, she welcomes cruisers with
open arms today.
Elizabeth City's waterfront delivers a wide, welcoming vista of
wildlife, recreation, and fun. This town has put a lot of effort into
turning the waterfront into a place you want to be. A broad walkway
lines the docks, with commemorative plaques attesting to the
efforts of the community to invite people to tie up, get off the
boat…and visit for a while. A pleasant park offers a place to sit,
watch the seagulls and simply enjoy the view.
If there is such a thing as the quintessential
river town…then Hertford is it. Lush lawns
stretch down to the rivers edge, creating a
backdrop of vibrant green grass and carolina
blue skies for the beautiful historic homes that
line the riverfront
